Career Workshops for UBE 101 Classes

StrengthsQuest Initiative for First-Year Students

As part of a very generous grant by the UB Parents Council, the offices of Career Services and New Student Programs have collaborated to offer all first year students the chance to take StrengthsQuest™, a self-assessment tool to help understand natural talents and strengths, at no charge. Students enrolled in UBE 101 may have an opportunity to experience StrengthsQuest™ in class along with their peers. However, any freshman student who wishes to take StrengthsQuest™ can do so at no charge.

UBE 101 Instructors

If you are interested in having your students take StrengthsQuest™ as part of UBE 101, please complete a request form in order to receive online access codes and arrange a time for a follow-up session. (Note: an in-class follow-up session provided by Career Services is required in order for your students to take StrengthsQuest™.)

Career Services is available to present to UBE 101 classes on a number of career-related topics. If you are interested in requesting a workshop, please review the presentation descriptions and fill out the request form below. We are happy to speak to your class on more than one occasion should you be interested in multiple topics. Please submit your request with at least 2 weeks' notice so that we may best accommodate you.

Planning for Your Future Workshop: This is our standard workshop for UBE 101 classes in which we introduce your students to the career decision-making process, major/career exploration, and resources for navigating the career development process. Specific tools, websites, and services will be discussed. 50 minutes

StrengthsQuest™ Workshop: This workshop is a follow-up session to your class taking the StrengthsQuest™ Inventory, an online assessment that explores an individual's natural talents and strengths. One of our staff members will walk your students through the results of the assessment and discuss ways to use strengths in relation to academic, career, and life planning. 50 minutes. (Note: Use the form below to order StrengthsQuest access codes for your class and to schedule a StrengthsQuest debriefing session. Your students must take StrengthsQuest™ prior to this workshop.)

Other Workshops: Upon request, we may be available to speak to your class about special topics such as resume and cover letter writing, interviewing skills, finding a job/internship and more.
