Dance

Most student involvement in dance programs occurs through the Department of Theater and Dance. External Site Link Icon Students with any questions about these programs can contact the Department by visiting 285 Alumni Arena or by calling 645-6898.

Dancers Workshop (Department of Theater and Dance)

A student organization which offers non-credit performing and related opportunities for the University community at various levels of ability and interest. Workshop advisors are members of the Dance faculty.

GEMMS Company (Department of Theater and Dance)

GEMMS is a faculty directed and choreographed music theatre performance course that requires a major time committment. Membership is by audition early each semester. (Course credit given)

Step Troupe (SA)

UB Step Troupe is a SA recognized club that combines the art of movement, music and dance into beautiful collaborations known as "stepping" Club members uplift the spirit of UB in the form of step and dance techniques. Step Troupe holds a very popular fall exhibition in November and Step Extravaganza in April. More information about the club can be obtained at 350 SU or by calling 645-2055.

Swing Dance (SA)

The Swing Dance Club External Site Link Icon offers West Coast Swing for anyone who wants to learn swing dance or loves to dance to swing music. Weekly dances are held in the Student Union lobby for anyone who would like to come and practice their moves. The club even offers annual dances, usually held in Harriman Hall, on the South Campus to help raise money for their group. This club is not just for students, but for anyone who would like to come that happens to be in the area of Buffalo.

The Guild (Department of Theater and Dance)

Guild is an association managed entirely by students. It focuses on unifying the Department's students and improving communication between students and faculty. It also strives to assist students in developing their craft through productions, workshops and staged readings.

UB Dazzlers (Student Life)

The Dazzlers are the official dance team of the University at Buffalo. The Dazzlers are a part of the UB Spirit Team, along with the cheerleaders and the pep band. The dance team performs at all home football games, as well as all men's and women's home basketball games. The Dazzlers also travels to tournaments with the basketball teams. The Dazzlers practice twice a week focusing on jazz and hip hop based routines. This year the team is participating in many local competitions. Previous dance experience is required, auditions will be held in the first week of the fall semester. For more information, visit 150 Student Union or call 645-2055.

Young Choreographers Showcase (Department of Theater and Dance)

Young Choreographers Showcase is faculty directed/mentored. Advanced level student choreographers are invited by the faculty to present a concert of their works.

Zodiaque Dance Company (Department of Theater and Dance)

Zodiaque is a performance training company which requires a major time commitment. The company also performs in the community. Membership for the year is by audition early each Fall. 2007-08 is the Company's 34th anniversary. (Course credit given)

Zodiaque Studio Dance Ensemble (Department of Theater and Dance)

This is a faculty directed and choreographed ensemble. Advanced level student choreographers are also invited to choreograph. The demands of this group are less intense than the Zodiaque Dance Company. Membership for the fall semester is by audition early each Fall. (Course credit given)
