"Don't Cancel Class" Workshops
The University at Buffalo offers a wide range of workshops and presentations on topics relevant to UB students. These workshops are available from Student Affairs, on request, to any UB faculty member, including those who may be faced with the need to cancel class. Workshops are 50 minutes to 90 minutes in length and will be adapted to fit your requirements. Please contact the offices below to schedule a workshop. Two-week notice is requested.

Question, Persuade, Refer – Suicide Prevention Training
Suicide is the second leading cause of death among college students. Most suicides can be prevented if others learn to recognize risk factors, become comfortable asking about suicidal thoughts, and know where to send someone for help. Participants will leave with practical knowledge for helping others who might be at risk for suicide.
What’s in your cup?
Designed to help students understand motivations for high-risk drinking and other drug use; to encourage responsible drinking and drinking alternatives; to correct misperceptions regarding norms for alcohol use at UB; and to increase awareness of alcohol and drug abuse.
STI Jeopardy
This fun, interactive, educational activity, based on the game show and adapted for group presentation, addresses facts, statistics, treatment, and risk reduction of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI).
Are you stressed out?
The American College Health Association cites stress as the greatest impediment to a college student’s academic performance. In this presentation students learn techniques to identify stressors and take control of stress in their lives.
The ABC’s of Getting Your Zzzz’s
College students are some of the most sleep-deprived people in the U.S.! Sleep deprivation can lead to decreased performance and alertness, difficulty concentrating, memory problems, and emotional distress. In this workshop students will learn about the importance of sleep, the effects of sleep deprivation, and strategies for getting better sleep.

Leadership & Community Engagement
DiSC – What’s Your Style
Work more effectively in groups by learning about yourself and others. DiSC Personality Profile reveals insights into our behaviors and how we can adjust our behaviors to work more effectively with people who are not like us. This workshop is great for classes that might require students to work in groups/teams.
Public Speaking 101
Designed to help students with the basics of class/group presentations and break down fears of public speaking. Most students have to give at least one presentation over the course of the academic year and this workshop will help them be more effective in their planning, preparation and practice.
Take the Leadership Challenge
The Leadership Challenge by Kouzes and Posner identifies five practices common to all great leaders. The workshop includes a personal assessment which helps students identify how the five practices play out in the real world.
Community Engagement and the Classroom
This workshop will help students find ways to get involved in the community and will illustrate how community involvement can help them inside the classroom as well as prepare them for lives of active citizenship.

Intercultural And Diversity
Diversity and your Cultural Lens
What roles do your family background, ethnicity, sex, gender, geographic and socio-economic locations play in forming your cultural lens? How may they help or hinder how you perceive diversity? This workshop gives an overview of the diversity at UB and is an opportunity for students to understand how their cultural lens impacts their interaction with the world.
Why Diversity Matters
What is diversity? What are the benefits of attending a diverse university? What does "multicultural competency" mean? Why is it important? This workshop helps students examine these questions. This workshop touches only UB's diversity as well as diversity in the U.S.
Diversity and Social Justice
What is social justice? How is it related to diversity? What is advocacy? Why do they matter? This workshop explores these questions using UB as a case study of how oppression and privilege impact lives.
