Membership
At the University at Buffalo, membership in a Greek letter organization offers students unique opportunities for campus involvement, scholarship, leadership, and socializing. Like your studies, the amount of time and effort you put into your sorority or fraternity will be what you get out of it. Membership in a Greek letter organization is a privilege and a commitment.

Eligibility to participate in new member education or intake, and to be initiated requires a minimum of a 2.0 GPA (some organizations may require a higher GPA). Freshmen are not eligible for membership until their second semester at UB.

Activities
Members of the UB Greek Community are leaders on campus. The network of Greeks on campus helps foster a strong sense of community and pride among fraternity men and sorority women. Events such as Homecoming/Parents Weekend, Greek Week, UB Bulls and Royals athletic contests, and intramural sports offer Greeks a host of opportunities for the social interaction so crucial to the overall college experience. The Greek community at UB is a constant opportunity to make new friends and try new experiences.

Scholarship
One of the main purposes of Greek-letter organizations is to promote academic excellence. The Greek Academic Success Program (GASP) recognizes students within th Greek community who have achieved a 3.75 GPA during one or both of the two previous semesters. Recognition occurs during Greek Week festivities.

The Order of Omega is a national Greek honor society. The Mu Alpha chapter (chaper email uborderofomega@yahoo.com) at UB recognizes those students who have obtained a high standard of scholarship and leadership in Greek and campus activities. Most individual chapters offer their own programs to support and encourage academic achievement.

Rho Lambda is an honorary society among Panhellenic women. The university at Buffalo's chapter was founded on October 31, 2005 and continues to select women who have made significant contributions to sorority life at UB.

Philanthropy
UB Greeks are involved in a variety of philanthropic or community service events, the largest being our continued support of The Buffalo News Kids' Days to benefit Children's Hospital. Fraternities and sororities pride themselves in their active role for many charities in the Buffalo area. Such involvement by students not only benefits the community-at-large but likewise teaches students the value and importance of becoming contributing members of society.

Leadership
Members of the UB Greek community are leaders throughout campus and student organizations. Involvement in fraternities and sororities provides students with unique opportunities to develop leadership skills such as time management, team work, networking, meeting procedures, recruitment, delegation, and budgeting. These skills will continue to benefit students long after they graduate.

Rush
The time for Greeks and non-Greek students to become acquainted with one another is known as Rush. The events of Rush provide an opportunity to learn about the Greek system, meet hundreds of people, visit chapter houses, and consider becoming part of the vast fraternity and sorority campus network.

Formal Rush takes place during the Spring semester with a small-scale, Informal Rush period during the Fall semester.
