South Campus is where UB's rich heritage began. The ivy-covered city setting is ideal for students who like to be where the action is. On-campus dining and the University's health services are quick and easy to access. Within walking distance is a supermarket and pharmacy, a movie theater, restaurants, retail stores, coffeehouses and many other services. A 15-minute subway ride puts you in the heart of downtown Buffalo where concerts, professional sporting events, Broadway shows and big city shopping and dining are easily accessible. Many new students are assigned to the South Campus.
Clement and Goodyear, twin high-rise halls connected by a service area, each house 480 students in suite arrangements (two double rooms connected by a bath). Each floor is coeducational by alternating suites. In addition, each floor has two furnished lounges, and laundry/cooking facilities. On the first floor of Clement Hall is a large study lounge where tutoring occurs, a TV lounge, and the Main Street computer lab. The main floor of Goodyear contains the Goodyear Dining Hall (Main Street Market) and the Main Street Area Office. The 10th floor of Goodyear (a.k.a. Goodyear X) is an area for study, programming, and entertainment with its four HDTV’s with Satellite programming. In the basement connecting Clement and Goodyear are student mailboxes, the package pick-up room, and a fitness/aerobics center.
Three miles - or a short UB Stampede (intercampus bus) ride from South Campus - is North Campus in suburban Amherst. The centrally located Student Union offers convenient campus dining, UB shops and student service offices. Or a quick trip to Ellicott food court offers even more dining alternatives. Students can stop by the Commons for shopping, dining and coffee. Nearby is a busy commercial district with a shopping mall, restaurants, movie theaters, banks, and other services. The Amherst campus is surrounded by a popular bike and jogging path and is centered on beautiful Lake LaSalle.
Governors houses 825 students in suites consisting of four double rooms, a bathroom, and a small lounge. The complex is coeducational by alternating suites with first floors and basements containing laundry and cooking facilities. A convenience store is located on the first floor of Roosevelt and a dining hall and snack bar are located in the basement. There are also pool and ping pong tables, TV lounges, study lounges, and an aerobics and fitness room. A student study center is in the basement of Clinton Hall. The Rowena-Adams Jones Academic Success Center (a student study center) is in the basement of Clinton Hall and a computer lab is on the first floor.
Ellicott is a self contained campus-within-a-campus, where 3,250 students enjoy a blend of living, learning, study, and recreational space. Living areas are coeducational by alternating sections. Each section has rooms ranging from four-person occupancy to singles with common baths and lounges. The quads are joined by the Millard Fillmore Academic Center, which contains the Mildred Blake Academic Success Center (a residential student study and tutoring center), Ellicott Food Court, Katharine Cornell Theatre, and the Elli (a full-service convenience store). Wilkeson Quad, Spaulding Quad and Richmond Quad house a first-year student program. Each quad contains floor lounges, limited cooking facilities, laundry rooms, and a community lounge. An aerobics and fitness center is located in Richmond Quad.
Our newest residence hall, William R. Greiner Hall is scheduled to open August 2011. This hall is located next to the Ellicott Complex on North Campus. Greiner Hall will have space for 600 students and is slated to be used for sophomores. All rooms will be Suite style with two double rooms with an adjoining private bathroom and storage area. There will be kitchens, laundry rooms and lounges on every floor along with flexible use room furniture. Greiner Hall will be our only residence hall with Air Conditioning.
Greiner Hall will have many study spaces in large lounges and intimate seating areas throughout, a multipurpose space for workshops and social gatherings and a cafe with seating for 50. Additionally there will be a business center, entertainment lounge and wireless internet access throughout
