Interview Process

Residence Hall Directors & Complex Directors

Once a candidate’s materials are reviewed, an offer for an interview may be extended. The first screening interview will either be a 30 minute phone interview or an interview at one of several national or regional conferences (including ACPA, TPE & Western New York Placement Exchange). A conference interview lasts for approximately 30 minutes and is a first step in getting to know a candidate. Professional dress is expected of all candidates.

For on campus interviews, candidates usually arrive the evening before their interview day to meet their host and get an overview of the following day. The next step is a day-long on campus interview. Past interviews have included meetings with Area Directors, Complex/Residence Hall Directors, Assistant Hall Directors and the Sr. Associate Director of Residence Life. Candidates also have lunch with Campus Living staff and participate in a driving tour of campus.

Candidates who come to campus for interviews make their own travel arrangements. Campus Living makes reservations at a hotel located close to the north campus. Reimbursement for travel expenses occurs after the selection process has been completed. If a candidate cancels an on-campus interview, or declines an offer of employment, they are not reimbursed for any fees associated with cancelled flights.

Assistant Hall Directors, Assistant Complex Directors or Residential Education Assistants

Once a candidate’s materials are reviewed, an offer for an interview may be extended. Candidates offered an invitation to interview via a phone/Skype interview or on campus during our half-day "interview day." The half-day long on campus interview process involves interviews with Area Directors, Complex/Residence Hall Directors, and Assistant Hall/Complex Directors. Apartment tours are available for interested candidates and may take up to one hour. Candidates will be assigned an interview time slot. Approximately nine candidates take part in the interview at any one time but the process is individualized. The entire interview process takes approximately 1½ hours not including a tour. Professional dress is expected of all candidates.
