Community Assistant Position Description - Academic School Year 2011 - 2012

Compensation

  • Full rent waiver for a single bedroom located in a 2-bedroom or 4-bedroom unit (depending on village and need)
  • $500 stipend per semester

Job Responsibilities During the Academic School Year (August - May):

  1. Daytime and/or evening, administrative office hours throughout the week and weekends during the academic school year. 15 hours per week.
  2. After hours emergency response/duty hours. Approximately 1 evening per week from 11 p.m. until the office opens the following day
  3. Act as back-up to on-duty CA in the event of lock-outs, student conduct issues, and emergencies from 11pm-7am.
  4. Serve as liaison, programmer, and support to assigned buildings of approximately 72-100 residents.
  5. Serve as initial referral source for facilities concerns and related difficulties
  6. Assist with occupancy and vacancy procedures including move-in and move-out inspections and damage billing in conjunction with the facilities and custodial staff
  7. Attend weekly staff meetings and any required pre-serve or in-service training sessions.
  8. Host community meetings when necessary
  9. Plan and implement social activities and educational programs for assigned buildings or the entire village
  10. Distribute necessary safety information, apartment newsletters, advertisements, etc.
  11. Generate work orders
  12. Assist with Village Council programming and community building initiatives
  13. Mandatory participation with Campus Events including, but not limited to Preview Day, Discover UB, Funfest, September Welcome and open houses.
  14. Assist with University Apartment marketing, promotions- (e.g. give tours)
  15. Assist with assignment process for returning and new residents
  16. Report to the Complex Director and meet individually with this person as necessary
  17. Report to the Assistant Complex Director and meet individually with this person as needed for programmatic matters.
  18. Submit necessary reports and audits (i.e. weekly reports, safety inspections, move-in and move-out inspections)
  19. Respond to incidents and document community violations when necessary
  20. Educate residents on and enforce the community standards as stated in the University Rules and Regulations and the University Apartments Student Handbook.
  21. Provide general support to the Community Building operations
  22. Deliver mail, packages, and collate and deliver community mailings (flyers, newsletters, etc.). Also assist with mail forwarding and maintaining mailboxes during turnover periods
  23. Other necessary duties and/or emergency response as needed by the Complex Director

Job Requirements

  • Attendance at UB for 2 years (transfers one year)
  • One year on-campus living experience (at UB or another college/university)
  • 2.5 or greater Q.P.A.
  • Good judicial standing with the University
  • Proven leadership experience
  • U.B. Pride!
  • Attend interest the required session
  • Submit a resume, cover letter and three references
  • Community Assistants must be available to return for all required dates including summer/fall, Thanksgiving, winter break, spring break and summer breaks
  • Community Assistants must be available for work from the beginning of August through the end of May
  • Employment over ten (10) hours elsewhere must be approved by the Complex Director
  • Wear department issued attire as necessary.
