Description: The House Crew is the front line of hospitality for the Alt Theatre. Because the Alt performs in an unconventional space, the work of our House Crew is vital to making sure that guests feel comfortable and know where to go. Duties of the House Crew vary from show to show, but include welcoming guests at the front door, ushering, ticketing management, operating the elevator and assisting guests, and light cleaning to prepare the house before the show (vacuuming, swiffer, etc.). We rely on our House Crew to help us make the best possible first impression on all our guests! The Alt Theatre is hosting Volunteer Kick-Off Day on Saturday, October 2, from 3 – 5 p.m.. Volunteers can come apply and be interviewed, see the theatre and set for Evil Dead, and have a brief orientation. All volunteers will get one free ticket to see Evil Dead: The Musical! Come on Saturday to learn more! No appointment necessary!

Description: Lothlorien Therapeutic Riding Center is a nationally accredited facility that provides horseback riding lessons to individuals with mental, physical, emotional and learning disabilities. Classes take place in an environment that focuses on the rider’s ability rather than disability, and riders benefit physically and emotionally from their interaction with the horses. We have riders of all ages, but the majority are children. Volunteers assist with the lessons by leading the horse or walking alongside the rider for physical and moral support. Our program would not be possible without the help of dedicated volunteers!

Description: For the Birds! is a school-based environmental education program that teaches science, environmental awareness, and appreciation of nature through the study of birds. This program, which has been extremely successful in other areas of the state, has come to western New York! Volunteer positions include lead teacher, assistant teacher, field trip assistant, and office assistant. Position 3: Collections Management Intern
Description: Buffalo Museum of Science (BMS) internship program is designed to provide students with an introduction to the standards of museum practice and provide hands-on experience in Collections Management. Collections Management ensures museum collections are accessible, housed under proper environmental conditions and are protected while in storage and on exhibit. The internship program at the BMS provides students with an opportunity to work on projects such as monitoring environmental conditions in collections storage and exhibit areas, object handling, updating object records, databasing, exhibit installation and de-installation, and conducting collections inventories. The primary focus of the internship is a collections inventory and database project using PastPerfect Museum Software. The internship will expose students to multiple facets of collections care and long-term preservation goals.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree completed or in-progress in Anthropology, Art History, Museum Studies or related field. Candidates must be able to handle objects with extreme care, pay careful attention to detail and keep clear, accurate records. Experience working in an archival or museum setting preferred. Additional Information: Internships are unpaid; however, academic credit can be arranged. Hours are flexible, Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm. Interns are expected to commit at least 7 hours per week on a fixed schedule. Description: Minor Home Maintenance for seniors The vision of this organization is to help frail, isolated poor seniors remain independent in their homes and Support agency and Erie County policies and practices. Volunteers would provide minor home repair for seniors in the town of Evans, Brant, Farnham, Collins, North Collins, and Gowanda. This may include, but is not limited to, changing a light bulb, fixing a leaky toilet or sink, yard work, shoveling snow, and painting. Volunteers will schedule calls at their own convenience and only work as many days a month as they are able.
Duties Include: Developing relationship with homeowner, performing scheduled tasks in a timely manner, Performing tasks to the best of your ability, notify owner and Outreach Coordinator whenever tasks exceed ability or cost, finishing tasks once they are started, unless unable to, provide signed documents from you and the client to Outreach Coordinator in a timely manner, and report serious home repairs to Outreach Coordinator. Description: Assets, Savings & Hope (CASH) Buffalo is seeking volunteers for its free tax preparation network. Over the last five years, the local volunteer network has completed more than 43,000 state and federal returns and brought more than $50 million dollars into the community via tax refunds and credits. With your help, we can increase these numbers and reach even more hard working, low-to-moderate income persons. Under the supervision of tax professionals, you will prepare federal and state income tax returns for the current year. If you wish to volunteer, but do not want to prepare tax returns, you can serve as a greeter, translator, a tax expert (for people with previous experience), or as a CASH advisor. CASH advisors help families determine eligibility for service and provide information on financial education and asset building opportunities.
Requirements: You don't need to be a professional tax preparer to help out. New inexperienced volunteers participate in training prior to our sites opening. All courses are free for anyone who becomes a volunteer.

Description: As a Big Brother or Big Sister you will mentor a child who could benefit personally & academically from having a special friend that offers attention and encouragement. The relationship you build with your Little Brother or Sister will make a BIG difference in his life or her life and yours, too! Two volunteer programs are available. Site-Based volunteers meet 1 time per week with their Little Brother or Sister at a City of Buffalo school or community center. All activities are planned and take place at the designated site. This program is great for students that use public transportation. Community-Based volunteers meet with their Little Brother or Little Sister 2-3 times per month for a few hours to participate in activities throughout the community. Volunteers must provide their own transportation and are responsible for transporting the child to whatever activities are planned. Get togethers could include attending a campus sporting event, walking in the park or playing video games and talking about the day in your dorm or at your apartment. You & your Little decide! Times Needed: Site-Based Mentors are needed 1 time per week, Monday – Thursday from 3:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. Community-Based Mentors create a personalized schedule to meet 2-3 times per month, for a couple hours each time during convenient evening or weekend hours.
Requirements: Site-Based Volunteers must commit to 12 months of meeting with their Little Brother or Sister at the site. Community-Based volunteers must commit to 12 months and are asked to keep in contact via phone, email or mail during holidays and breaks. All volunteers must complete a volunteer enrollment interview process. Training, support and additional activity opportunities provided by professional BBBS staff.

Description: Eniola Sisters Enrichment and Mentoring Program strives to improve the lives of girls and empower girls to be their best selves. Eniola Sisters achieves this by providing community and after-school group mentoring sessions as well as one to one mentoring sessions. Eniola Sisters Enrichment and Mentoring program provides girls with the necessary skills, knowledge, and confidence to increase academic performance, improve self esteem and self concept, increase positive attitudes and behaviors in school, home and the community, develop and improve leadership and social skills, and increased ability to manage stress and self regulate. Eniola Sisters also encourages girls to move beyond stereotypical gender roles by exploring the disciplines of science and technology as well as encouraging girls to increase physical activity and participation in organized sports. We are looking for fun loving minority young women who have a desire to be active change agents. We are looking for one-one mentors as well as group facilitators.

Description: We offer a variety of exciting, flexible pathways for adults to volunteer with Girl Scouts. Both men and women can act as leaders or assistant leaders for groups of girls, grades K-12. Volunteers can run their own troops or assist with our troops in underserved areas of the city. As a bonus, volunteers entering education or social work fields can enhance their career skills and gain valuable experience to set them apart from other candidates. Description: Starlight Children's Foundation is a non-profit organization in Buffalo dedicated to brightening the lives of seriously ill children and their families through an array of programs and services that educate, empower, uplift spirits and instill a sense of community. Starlight strongly believes that by making dreams come true, we can provide these courageous children with an enjoyable, memorable experience and an inspiration of hope for the future. The intern's work for the Starlight Children's Foundation will consist of researching potential organizational and individual donors and assisting in the planning process of Great Escapes in Buffalo for the families. Great Escapes in the area have included a trip to a US Women's soccer game in July, a visit to the Strong National Museum of Play, Cirque du Soleil, a Rochester Red Wings ballgame, Sabres and Bills games, a day at Darien Lake, and an overnight retreat to Camp Pontiac in the foothills of the Berkshires. All Great Escapes are at absolutely no cost to the Starlight families.
Times Needed: 4 hours per week requested with a report of findings submitted at the end of each week.
