Educational Technology Foundation of WNY - August 20, 2013

The Educational Technology Foundation of WNY is currently looking for Team Leaders and team members for their Ed Tech Day on August 20th. The Ed Tech Foundation is a group of volunteers who enrich the lives of children by improving access to modern computer technology. The Foundation sets-up and installs or configures reliable networks, computers, smartboards, servers and other types of technology for community centers, schools, or non-profits. Since its inception in 2003, The Ed Tech Foundation has helped young people at more than 90 schools, organizations and community centers in the WNY area. 'Computer technology is essential to education today as blackboard and chalk was 100 years ago,' said Doug Torre, founder of Ed Tech Day. 'This is a great way for IT professionals to give back to the community in a very meaningful way,' he added. Ed Tech Day is coordinated by its Board of Directors, which consists of volunteers who have been part of the program since its inception. They have the passion to see this Foundation succeed and volunteer their time to make sure it does. We need people with all different types of skills to help us on Ed Tech Day and prior to Ed Tech Day. You don't have to have technical skills to volunteer. There are all types of jobs! We always need people that are familiar with servers, workstations, hardware repair, wiring, and software installations. Prior to Ed Tech Day, we need help rebuilding and repairing all computers that have been donated to us. This can be done January through August. This is great for class projects!

Form a Team - This is great way to get your co-workers or friends involved. Your team will then be assigned a school for the day.

Be a Team Leader - A team leader manages the team of volunteers. Prior to Ed Tech Day the team leader will visit the site they are assigned to and do a site evaluation. They will then come up with a project plan for the day and report back to the Ed Tech Foundation. On Ed Tech Day they will assign tasks to each of their volunteers.
