Student Life's Intercultural & Diversity Center is a comfortable, welcoming location to study or engage in small group work. The location is also used for educational and awareness-building programs, to help students and the entire University build an understanding and appreciation of diversity, social justice and cultural identity. Programs and services foster academic and personal growth -- that promote a multi-ethnic, culturally conscious University community.

UB's Intercultural & Diversity Center coordinates the following events and programs:

Cultural Bazaars
Each academic year, the IDC coordinates four Cultural Bazaars which are held during historical heritage months. Cultural Bazaars are planned with the help and guidance of UB students and student organizations. Their goal is to teach students and the UB community about different cultures through informational poster displays, entertainment, cultural cuisine, cultural crafts and other traditions. The Cultural Bazaars provide an exciting and engaging environment for students to share and celebrate their culture with the UB commUNITY. All Cultural Bazaars take place in the Student Union Lobby (North Campus).

Diversity & Leadership Panel Discussions
Through these Panel Discussions, participants have the opportunity to engage in dialogue with diverse panelists and leaders who share their stories, perspectives and their best advice for students. In today's global environment it is important for all of us to examine our own identities and communities to which we belong as well as have knowledge of others with whom we will be working, leading and serving.

Develop your knowledge and intercultural communication skills by speaking with others and asking the sometimes "uncomfortable" questions. These events also provide an opportunity for students to network with community professionals and meet other students. These programs are co-sponsored by the Intercultural & Diversity Center and the Center for Student Leadership and Community Engagement.

Film Screenings & Guided Dialogues
Through a diverse selection of film screenings we explore a variety of cultures, cultural perspectives and social justice issues which inspire group dialogue based on the selected film and its themes. The dialogue is facilitated by a faculty/staff member or invited guest. Free popcorn and refreshments are provided. The Film Series is co-sponsored by the Intercultural & Diversity Center and the Professional Staff Senate.

Cultural Artifact Campaign
History plays a significant part in who we are and how we are seen by others. We encourage students, student organizations, faculty & staff to share their cultural history by donating or loaning personal mementos or travel souvenirs that convey the history of their heritage & culture. The IDC Cultural Artifact Campaign allows for a symbolic representation and sharing of culture which will educate and enrich our intercultural campus community. Artifacts are displayed in the enclosed glass cabinets located in the Intercultural & Diversity Center.

ALANA Celebration of Achievement
The ALANA Celebration of Achievement is a convocation program that takes place during commencement weekend and celebrates the academic achievements of students of color. It is an opportunity for the University, students, family and friends to celebrate their graduation.

The CADS Department consists of The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), Achievement Challenge and Enrichment Program (ACE), Student Support Services (SSS), Ronald E. McNair Program, and Cora P. Maloney College (CPMC).

Diversity Advocates Internship (3-Credit Course)
Diversity Advocates are undergraduate peer educators who promote diversity and social justice, increase awareness and knowledge of diversity-related issues; create dialogue that explores the definition and perception of diversity and work to build a University commUNITY. Diversity Advocates conduct educational workshops with UB101 classes, student clubs and organizations and residence halls to promote the awareness, acceptance and necessity for diversity education.

Success through Access to Guidance and Experience (SAGE) Internship Program
SAGE is an internship program designed to encourage a diverse group of undergraduate students to pursue graduate studies, and to enter a career in Higher Education or another specific career field. SAGE Interns are provided the unique opportunity to obtain a paid internship position, mentorship, networking and guidance related to their educational and career goals while they gain professional development skills and relatable work experience in their area of interest. Each SAGE Intern participates in a 10-15 hour per week internship and works with a supervisor who serves as a Mentor.
