Frequently Asked Questions
I'll be living on campus and I’m trying to decide whether to bring my car. How will I get around without one?
Easy! UB Stampede buses will get you where you need to go 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Campus shuttles provide door-to-door access to classroom buildings and housing areas. If you need to travel to the Downtown Campus, NFTA rail passes are available for FREE. And, don't forget to bring your bicycle! Check out the UB Car Free site for all the reasons you don’t need a car!
What if I want to travel off campus?
The UB Mall/Market Shuttle will take you shopping, to the mall or for groceries, twice a week. For those special trips, Zipcar car sharing provides wheels when you want them; gas, insurance and 180 miles per trip are all included in the $35 annual fee. Also, for those of you who live east of Buffalo, the UB Express Bus will get you home for the holiday breaks. Buses will take you to New York City, Rochester, Syracuse and Albany.
My daughter is a commuter and has trouble finding a parking place on campus before her 10 a.m. class. What advice do you have for her?
Your daughter should make a Park and Ride Lot her first choice for parking. Convenient shuttle service to academic buildings and complexes is available from the Park and Ride Lots, Monday through Friday, every 10 to 20 minutes. Shuttles are color-coded to specific routes. Your daughter can find the most convenient route to her class by checking out the shuttle schedules.
Another alternative is for your daughter to arrive on campus prior to 9 a.m., when parking is readily available. She may park in one of our 2 commuter lots, Jarvis A or Hochstetter B and spend the time before her class at a library reviewing her schoolwork for the day.
I've noticed reserved carpool parking signs in some prime parking places. How can I park there?
Carpool spaces are available for 2 or more University members who are willing to turn in their individual parking permits for one shared carpool permit. Applications to join the Carpool Program are available on the UB CarFree site. If you would like help forming a carpool, the ride share matching site, www.GoodGoingWNY.com
can help. UB carpool members are also given one-day guest passes for those days in which carpooling is not possible. An Emergency Ride Home program is also provided.
I'm not a UB student yet, but I will be on campus for an official academic purpose. How do I obtain a parking permit for that day?
The department you are visiting may provide you with a guest parking permit or you can stop into either the North or South Campus Parking & Transportation Services office, and a clerk will give you a guest permit for the day that will allow you to park on campus.
Where can visitors park?
If you didn't get a permit from the department you are visiting, you can park in the North Campus Fronczak Visitor Lot off White Road. The entry cost is $4.00 or $2.00 after 1 p.m. and free after 3 p.m. Metered parking is available throughout the North Campus and in the Michael-Farber Lot on the South Campus. Visitors are also welcome to park in the Center for Tomorrow Lot off Flint Road and hop onboard the UB Green Line shuttle for a ride to the Academic Spine.
My parents are coming to visit for the weekend, where can they park?
Weekend visitors can park in a residence hall lot or other lot on campus without a permit after 3 p.m. Friday, but visitors to any apartment village must find parking outside that complex. The apartment village lots require a special permit at all times. Overnight parking rules are enforced all year round, signs are posted in respective lots.
