Safety Advocates
Living in UB Residence Halls or Apartments?
Or Working at UB?
Ways to be a UB Safety Advocate
As UB community members, we share responsibility for our own personal security and that of our friends and colleagues. It’s not hard to be a safety advocate. If you live or work on campus, UB’s University Police or residence hall and apartment staff are there to help. Don’t be afraid to contact them if you have any concerns.
- Practice
- Good personal safety habits
- Sign up for Emergency Text Messaging – it’s free and it’s easy.
- Never prop open residence hall or apartment doors or allow strangers to enter the building. Swipe card systems are there for your protection.
- Never go to laundry rooms alone late at night.
- Be Alert
- To anything that seems out of the ordinary.
- Report
- Any suspicious behavior immediately.
- Any criminal act.
- Any malfunctioning campus lighting.
- Sexual crimes confidentially.
- Any crime anonymously.
- Protect Your Personal Property
- Get your personal property tagged with Operation ID
- Register your bike with Parking & Transportation Services
- Secure your bike. University Police can advise you on a sturdy lock. Bikes with locks are rarely stolen.
- Park your car in a well-lit area and keep it locked at all times.
- Don’t leave valuables in your car where they can be easily seen—lock them in your trunk.
Remember, the university assumes no responsibility for damage to personal property.
