3/17 Safety Alert

When parking your vehicle, make sure not to leave valuables in plain view. Secure items such as laptops, GPS units, radar detectors, and pull-out radios in your trunk, out of site, or take them with you. If possible, secure mounting hardware out of site as this can be an indication to thieves that a device might be inside the vehicle.

As always, please be vigilant for suspicious activity in and around campus parking lots and immediately report this activity to the University Police using any blue light phone or by calling 645-2222.

Let's work together for a safe community.

New UB Police Officers Graduate With Honors

It is our pleasure to announce that three of our newest University Police Officers graduated January 16th from the Niagara County Law Enforcement Training Academy, all with honors. Congratulations are in order for Police Officers Florence Brown, William Malican, and Gary Miller. Officer Brown was the runner-up for the academic award by 1/10 of a point. Officer Malican, won awards for being class president and for high proficiency in firearms. In addition, he was also awarded the Joseph E. Steblein Award for Excellence in all areas of police training. Officer Miller won the physical fitness award.

In addition to being congratulated for completing this intensive 20 weeks of training, they reflected well on the University at Buffalo by their achievements, winning many of the Academy Awards. They have set the bar high for our five recruits that started at Erie County’s Police Academy on January 21.

UB's Emergency Preparedness

As part of our ongoing priority to ensure campus emergency preparedness, the University at Buffalo is offering a new text messaging emergency alert system to the campus community. It’s purpose is to disseminate critical information to subscribers of the system, whether it be extreme weather conditions, campus closings or serious campus security threats.

In addition, the University has a telephone service to provide for the most up-to-date status of similar events. This information can be obtained by calling 645-NEWS (645-6397), 24 hours a day. There will never be a busy signal since the line has the capacity to handle an unlimited number of calls simultaneously.

To get more information on the new text alert system, subscribe to it, or learn more about UB’s emergency preparedness plans, go to the emergency preparedness web site at http://emergency.buffalo.edu.
