Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus Infections (MRSA) InformationStaphylococcus aureus ("staph") infections have been around for a long time, causing mild to severe illness. MRSA is a kind of staph infection that may be more difficult to treat but is otherwise the same as a "staph infection". This type of infection is passed from person to person through direct contact with skin or through contact with contaminated items. The main ways to prevent staph infection are to wash hands and care for wounds properly. Review our brief handout to answer FAQs about MRSA. The vaccination has been approved by the FDA for women 9 to 26 years old. It is given in a three part series. The cost of each shot is $125. Students should contact their insurance company to determine if the vaccination is a covered benefit. If so, Health Services will provide a receipt that the student can submit to their insurance company for reimbursement. Review our brief handout to answer FAQs regarding HPV and the vaccine.
