AlcoholEDUCollege is a challenging time, when new students are faced with many critical decisions. Deciding how you will deal with alcohol is one of the first and most important decisions you will face. As of summer 2006, all new UB students are required to participate in AlcoholEDU ® a three-hour, on-line, science-based course that will help you think about your choices about alcohol. Whether or not you drink, AcoholEDU will help you make healthier and safer decisions and balance social life with your UB academic life. This is not an over-simplified lecture about alcohol. It is a thoughtful and scientific program designed for adults to help them make informed decisions. All students who attend orientation will receive information about this program. The three surveys that are part of AlcoholEDU gather information about you and help to customize the program to meet your needs. All survey responses are strictly confidential; the University at Buffalo will only receive information about the student body as a whole and will NEVER see any individual student's answers. "We are deeply committed to the health, welfare and success, of all new students and that of the entire UB community," said Dennis R. Black, Vice President, Student Affairs. "We believe that most students will find the course rewarding and hope they will use what they learn to have a great experience at UB, in and out of the classroom." View more information on AlcoholEDU, as a Word (1pg, 283kb) or a PDF (1pg, 72kb) file. How do I Participate? As you already know, all freshmen and transfer students must complete AlcoholEDU for College - an online, non-opinionated alcohol prevention program. Whether you drink or not, AlcoholEDU for College will help you make well-informed decisions about alcohol and will help you better cope with the drinking behavior of your peers. AlcoholEDU has two parts, both of which must be completed. Part I consists of the following and must be completed by August 26, 2007 (due to a deadline extension):
Part I takes about 3 hours to complete, and we recommend that you take it in multiple sittings. You must earn a grade of 75% or higher on the exam to successfully complete Part I. About 45 days after completing Part I, you will receive an email asking you to complete Part II. Part II consists of the following and must be completed by October 12, 2007:
Please note, for students over age 18, the course includes three surveys that measure students' alcohol-related attitudes and behaviors. All survey responses are strictly confidential; the school will only receive information about the student body as a whole and will never see individual students' answers. Should you experience any difficulties or require support, the AlcoholEdu Online Technical Support Center is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Simply click on the "Help" button located in the upper right-hand corner of every AlcoholEdu for College screen. You do not need to be logged into the course to access the Help Site. Any questions?
