DesktopSpa is a web-based program that offers direct, 24 hour access to a variety of innovative complementary and preventive health practices. Complementary medicine is used together with conventional medicine, and is not intended to replace it. Practice proactive health techniques by accessing a database of over two hundred unique brief audio and video clips that address health issues such as depression and anxiety, stress, back and neck pain, general wellness, cold and flu, and many more. You can learn brief health practice applications like yoga, meditation, and guided imagery. Research has demonstrated improved clinical results in areas of stress management, sleep, smoking cessation, weight loss, athletic performance, test anxiety and anger management.
Illustration 1: Desktop Treatments. Yoga teacher Cyndi Lee demonstrates a 2-minute exercise designed to provide smokers with a quick, simple breathing and movement exercise that they can do whenever they have the urge to smoke a cigarette.

To set up a desktop spa account:
- Log on to: http://www.desktopspa.com/BuffaloRegister.asp
- Fill in the registration information, "Tell Us About Yourself". Be sure to record your username and password somewhere safe.
- Enter Corporate Code: buffalo
- Choose your connection speed and software.
- Read the Terms and Conditions of Use and click "I Agree" and then the "Proceed" button.
- You will need to have Real Player or Windows Media Player installed on your computer
- The site works best if you use a PC rather than a Macintosh
- The site works best if you use Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.5 or the AOL web browser rather than Netscape Navigator

Once you set up an account, you will be sent directly to the 'My Health Issues' page. Tell the system which health issues you deal with the most, and it will personalize a list of treatments for you to explore... OR
You can pull down from one of the three menus on the left side column:
- Practitioner - choose a practitioner from the pull down menu, click on 'Go', and it will show the list of treatments by that practitioner
- Health Issue - choose a health issue from the pull down menu, click on 'Go', and it will show the list of treatments for that health issue, such as treatments for anxiety, frequent flyer stress, eye strain, etc.
- Therapies - choose a therapy from the pull down menu, click on 'Go', and it will show the list of treatments that fall within the categories of yoga, meditation, guided imagery, etc.
Once you arrive at one of these three lists, click on the bolded title of the treatment and relax as you explore the video or audio clip!
If you click on the name of the practitioner, it will show you additional treatments by that practitioner. If you click on the name of the therapy, it will show you additional treatments of that particular type of therapy.
You can also customize your own set of treatments at any time by clicking on 'Add to My Treatments'. In the left hand column there is an icon for 'My Treatments' that you can go to at any time.
