Graduate Assistants
For those students in the graduate program in Student Affairs, two assistantships are available through Wellness Education Services:
Graduate Assistant for Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Harm Reduction
Responsibilities Include:
- Serve as a liaison between the Wellness Education Services Alcohol & Other Drug Prevention Group and other members of the Student Wellness Team.
- Assist with analysis of data from UBSAFER programs, AlcoholEDU, Late Night Programs and focus groups
- Present AOD prevention curriculum to UB101 classes
- Attend Student Affairs committees as needed
- Work with Athletics, Greeks, Student Wide Judiciary and URH&A to coordinate programming for student leaders regarding environmental management of AOD use
- Participate in select WES, SWT and Student Affairs committees for policy development and environmental management strategies development
- Prepare, revise, and distribute marketing materials based on UB research and national social norms marketing strategies
- Organize and oversee innovative programming as adjuncts to ongoing Student Affairs programs and Student Wellness Teams outreach efforts
- Prepare articles for student newspapers regarding AOD use
Graduate Assistant for Underserved Populations Health Promotion
Position Description: Be a part of the Student Wellness Team and help make UB a Healthy Campus for all students. The Graduate Assistant will be an active participant in pro-active health promotion efforts on campus, and will learn to apply social marketing and risk-reduction strategies. This individual will assist in the design, implementation, and evaluation of programs, messages and campaigns, for key campus health concerns, including: alcohol and drug misuse; sexual behaviors that may result in HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, and unintended pregnancies; nutritional habits and physical activity; tobacco use, and violence, sexual assault and injury prevention. Programs and activities are targeted to specific groups on campus including freshman living in on-campus residences, mandated high-risk students, multicultural student clubs, athletes, GLBT organizations, and fraternities and sororities. Therefore, the GA will develop skills in culturally competent health promotions. In addition, the GA will be involved in training undergraduate peer-educators, data analysis and manuscript production, and university committees.
Other Graduate Assistantships
For students in the department of Counseling, School and Educational Psychology, from the School of Public Health and Health Professions, Graduate School of Education or other academic departments who are interested in campus health promotion, there are various opportunities for working with Wellness Education Services.
