Thunder of the East’s "Lightning Fast" Facts
In Our Own Words: The Marching Band Experience *
- The UB Marching Band, the Thunder of the East, currently has more band members than in the past 30 years!
- We have performed for national audiences at the Columbus Day Parade in New York City and appeared on the CBS Morning Show!
- We’ve performed live, on stage, with multiple Grammy Award winning, CMA Entertainer of the Year, Keith Urban!
- We made our first appearance at the New York State Field Band Conference Championships!
- Our August “Preview Show” attracts over 700 fans and features Marching Bands from across Western New York!
- Our “Spectacle of Sound” Jazz Festival is attended by 1,000 fans and performers every Spring!
Announcements
- Registration for 2008 UB Marching Band is now open! We invite all instrumentalists, dancers, twirlers, and colorguard performers to join us for another exciting season. Registration is easy and only takes a few minutes... click the "Join the Band" link and complete the online form
- The Thunder of the East is tentatively scheduled to perform September 6 at Pittsburgh's Heinz Field in support of our UB Bulls Football Team in an exciting MAC vs Big East matchup!
- 2008 Music Arranger Announced: Mr. Wayne Downey, Music Director for the 12 time World Champion Concord Blue Devils Drum & Bugle Corps, will be arranging our 2008 Field Show entitled "City Rhythms". Designed for energy and impact, "City Rhythms" combines powerful melodies and memorable impacts that promise to thrill our audiences as never before. (Members sign in to the members area to download parts)
- Percussionists: The UB Drumline is expanding once again! Our Battery Percussion section will be complimented by a Percussion Pit for the 2008 Season. If you are a mallet player, timpanist, or have previous experience in pit percussion we would love to have you join our team!
- New Tubas: The UB Marching Band has purchased (8) King 1151 SP- left shoulder BBb Tubas for the 2008 Season. These instruments provide excellent projection and deep resonant bass which compliment our entire ensemble. If you are a tubist you will love these!
- 2008 Goals- We are extremely excited about the 2008 Season! If you are a Brass Player we want you to be a part of the largest brass section in the Northeast... .our 2008 goal is 96 Brass! Sign up today and be a part of the "Thunder"!

- The 2008 Field show is titled "City Rhythms" - which incorporates themes from "Slaughter on 10th Avenue", "Stereophonic Ballet in Brass", "La Fiesta" and additional contemporary melodies synthesized into an impactful and truly exciting musical experience for our fans and our members.
